Mohidhar Sen had been quite late in leaving the school today. Actually, after school, he had spent quite sometime in the room of the Head Sir Sambit at his request. Sambit was reading to him the letter which he prepared in reply to the complaints made by the school Managing Committee against Mohidhar. While walking by the side of the field Mohidhar suddenly stopped as something caught his attention. He saw a group of people collected a heap of dry leaves and straw in the middle of the field. Though they all are from the same village but the absent-minded Mohidhar was not in touch with them. The fact was that the people of his locality usually avoided that strange and whimsical man, but the neighbours had a good relationship with his wife Dharitri. Mohidhar tried to comprehend for some time what was happening, At first, he thought the next day might be the "Dol Festival", that's why the villagers were trying to celebrate the ritual - "burning of the old woman's hut." But the next moment he rejected the idea as in that case, the school would have given a notice that the next day would be a holiday. There was no such notice. Curious Mohidhar asked someone why they gathered so many leaves. The man informed him that as the rice was harvested, so huge amount of straw and dry leaves would be burnt to clean the fields and roads. Mohidhar shivered in shock. He understood that they were the victims of infinite ignorance. They did not have any idea how from ages their fathers and forefathers went on dangerously polluting the Earth. They were also unknowingly doing the same and continuing to create hazardous and harmful gases.
Often as a result of burning all those straw and leaves as fuels, the gas spreads in all the surrounding areas. Men and women of all ages are greatly harmed by the infection of the lungs. Not only the poisons gas is mixing with the air, after that when the air, falls down as rain in the natural course, but we are also severely harmed by using the food grains and vegetables nourished by the poisonous water. We care so much for our children, but what type of Earth are we leaving for them? Will the Earth be worth living in it at all? Or it may so happen that whenever our Creator's extreme anger and hatred towards us will be intolerable, then the period of inhabitance in the Earth will be terminated. The Creator himself will obliterate his beloved Earth and send it back to the ice age and all the signs of life will be buried under the freezing ice.
Thinking about all these Mohidhar became very excited. He decided to stop them. He must explain it to them repeatedly - they should not cut branches off the tree, leaves, etc. and use it as fuel for saving a little money. Due to this indiscriminate destruction of forests, the possibility of the most essential rainfall is decreasing greatly. In absence of rain, the crops are terribly damaged. On the other hand, the water-level is going down rapidly and soon there will be a scarcity of drinking water. Most of the places on the Earth will turn into deserts in near future.
With great love for the Earth, our Creator has gifted us the best existence - the life of human beings. Expressing our boundless gratitude to Him, if we can take care of the Earth properly and keep it beautiful with our love, then only human beings and human civilization can be saved. We should not only explain it to these people but the little children should be trained to love the Earth also, should be given the basic education to take care of Mother Earth. If they realize it for once, then they will be able to teach others around them. The minds of these children are not yet poisoned with the pride of civilization and self-esteem. The canvases of their minds are totally spotless, milk-white and pure. The picture of Mother Earth has to be drawn on that canvas only. The canvases of the minds of the children must be painted with the colours of love and emotion.
Suddenly Mohidhar remembered something. At school, on that day Mr. Anil asked a profound question. He was a senior clerk of Dharanidhar High School, Mohidhar liked him. He had known Anil for such a long time but had never seen him speaking roughly with anyone. A few days back while conversing with Mohidhar, he said, 'You are doing all these efforts. Will your activities bring peace and success to the Earth? Some people even call you mad!" Saying the soft-spoken Anil bowed down his head in shame. Mohidhar started to laugh. Then he said on a serious note, "I don't mind if they call me mad, but no one should term my work as madness. My thoughts and work are very easy to understand. If in this life we can love our Mother Earth, then we won't be able to think of hating and destroying anyone of the Earth as we would be charmed by the infinite beauty of the Earth. We shall express our gratitude to our Creator again and again for giving us the chance to be born on the Earth and shall try our best to make ourselves more deserving and advanced human beings from every aspect. The savage mentality of assaulting others will totally cease to exist. Then absolute love will dwell in the whole Earth and peace and success will be possessed by the inhabitants of the Earth."
Mohidhar's heart was filled with joy while thinking about all these, he walked fast towards home.
